Barend Jacobus Burgers was born on the 22nd of April 1970 in Pretoria, where he currently resides. After matriculating in Pietersburg, Northern Province, Barend studied at the University of Pretoria where he was awarded a Baccalareus Legum Civilium (BLC) degree in 1991 and a Baccalareus Legum (LLB) degree in 1993. During 1994 and 1995 Barend studied at the University of Augsburg in Germany after having been granted a full bursary by the German Academic Exchange Service and was awarded a Magister Legum (LLM) degree in August 1995. Upon his return to South Africa Barend worked for a short period as a public prosecutor at Ellisras, during which time Barend completed a certificate course in constitutional litigation, whereafter he entered into a contract of articles with Schoeman Attorneys in Pietersburg. While attending the second night school of the School for Practical Legal Training in Pretoria during 1998, Barend also worked as a legal advisor for Redstar Networks (Pty) Ltd.
Barend Burgers is on the specialist panel for Labour Protect and also the organiser of South Africa’s Annual Cyber Law Conference and the co-founder of ICTA.za (Information Communication and Technology Association of SA)

On the 1st of July 1999 Barend Burgers started his own firm at Office Block E, 1st Floor, Hadefields, 1267 Pretorius Street, Hatfield, after having bought the practice of Hugh Clarkson, who practiced under the name and style of Clarksons Attorneys. After having had to move around quite a bit since then, the firm's offices are again situated in Hatfield, Pretoria at 1315 Hartebeestspruit Street, just east of Duncan Street.
Barend Burgers is committed to his clients and places the focus on personal, friendly, efficient and expeditious service to the client, while not neglecting the high ethical standards laid down by the profession. Barend has indicated that he wants to use the technology of this modern age, namely e-mail and the internet, to keep clients informed about the progress of their cases.
Although television programmes such as “Petrocelli”, “Matlock”, “Perry Mason” and “LA Law” have nothing to do with the South African legal environment and are in fact depicted as more glamorous, all these programmes have contributed to Barend Burgers’ interest in law and his inherent notion to strive for justice. His credo throughout his life has been (and will be in future) Fiat Iustitia! (Let justice be served!)
